Lenovo is interested in buying in a difficult situation BlackBerry. Chinese company a few years ago it bought from IBM’s PC manufacturing division.
The interest of Chinese takeover of Canadian mobile phone manufacturer informed citing anonymous sources, reporters “WSJ”. According to unconfirmed information, Lenovo signed an agreement with BlackBerry confidential agreement under which it may refer to the financial information contained in the company’s trouble.
Chinese tycoon electronics industry would not be the first large purchases in the West. In 2005, Lenovo acquired IBM’s personal computer manufacturing division. The value of that transaction closed at 1.75 billion dollars.
Earlier media reported that the acquisition of the company concerned is a consortium of Canadian financial holding company at the head of Fairfax.
Even four years ago, BlackBerry controlled more than one-fifth of the mobile phone market. Characteristic devices with physical keyboards were very popular. Their fans were among President Barack Obama and the famous singer Madonna. The company, however, did not survive competition from big rivals such as Apple and Samsung.
In late September, the Canadian company reported that its loss in the second quarter amounted to almost a billion dollars. At the time of publishing this information briefly halted trading in shares of the company on the stock exchange. Finally, at the close of trading the share price fell by 17 per cent. and still not recovered from those losses.
The company said that the losses are due in part unsatisfactory sales of the new smartphone model Z10. In June, the director BlackBerry Thorstein Heins said it sold 2.7 million of these devices (6.8 million units). Many users of BlackBerry smartphones has decided to stay with the older models.
