BlackBerry reaches the bottom ... but the value of the stock increases? - Computerworld.pl

NASDAQ: BBRY NASDAQ: BBRY

Sounds ridiculous? BlackBerry frankly admits that lost in the final quarter up $ 4.4 billion, and its shares rather than fly to the head, neck, and grow? Is there something I know only the hosts listed investors, or whether they decided to just before the end of 2013 to drown their financial reserves?

nailed report, announcing a gigantic loss of BlackBerry ends the third quarter of financial 2014 years and has been published before Christmas, December 20, 2013. The message was clear. Declared the amount of loss is not small, nor a dime. For less money is taken over a thriving IT companies. Recall that the $ 7.2 billion Microsoft bought Nokia. Example maybe not the best, especially if we consider the criterion of market success. This does not change the fact that this amount does not even twice the quarterly loss BlackBerry. Still, in a short time, the securities of the BlackBerry logo of the 6.34 dollar per share jumped to inconceivable levels of 7.73 dollar per share, an increase of almost 22%. Finally, the price stabilized at 7.30-7.40 dollar a piece. This, however, and so about 16% growth. I think few people would expect that after such tidings.

The explanation of this situation is one. Shortly after the notice of loss BlackBerry showcased exit strategy. The Canadian company intends to get out of the consumer market and focus on services and solutions for business. Perhaps the BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10, and the cult BlackBerry Messenger. This of course means a reduction in the scale of operations, but also limit the extent to which the BlackBerry fared far not the worst. Apparently these plans sounded so convincing that raised the confidence of international investors.

And what about the phones? RIM ever had, after all ambitions to become a major player in the handset market. It seems, however, that these dreams collapsed along with the spectacular failure of the latest concept smartphone Canadian producer. The report Q3 2013 was presented far from ideal result sales of 3.7 million copies. In Q3 2014 it already was, however, only 1.9 million … and, paradoxically, most BlackBerry phones acquired were those acting on the previous operating system, has long considered obsolete, and – contrary to hopes – no Z10 model, but the Q10, a smartphone equipped with a physical keyboard.

But to somewhat soften fall of dreaming big, BlackBerry decided to tie the cooperation with Foxconn. Over the next five years, both companies will ensure a regular supply of phones in emerging markets – especially Africa and Oceania – where BlackBerry still is considered a primary brand, and have a production apparatus RIM as prestigious.
